Xenephobia

Xenophobia in South Africa: Thabo Mbeki hasn’t Received the Memo Yet

It is unfortunate that South Africa, the economic power house of black Africa, has gone “south’ since Thabo Mbeki assumed office: His questionable “quiet diplomacy” with Robert Mugabe and statement on the election crisis; his failure to assume leadership position on the Darfur crisis; and his inability to curb the increasing rate of crime and unemployment all speak volumes. Even as xenophobic rage is consuming his nation, what did Mbeki do? He jumps on the plane and head for Tokyo, Japan!
When some frustrated black South Africans became consumed by rage of the worst kind, and descended on their immigrant brothers and sisters - killing in the goriest manner possible - the conscience of Mr. Thabo Mbeki ought to have spurred him into action to speak to the issue immediately. He could have been more visible. He chose not.
Although Mr. Mbeki has gone on air to speak to his nation - some call it “a rare televised national address”, waiting till Sunday to address his nation’s embarrassment, almost three weeks after violence commenced, is indicative of a man with severe moral lapses and poor leadership qualities.
Oh, I heard he was away when the attacks started. Is this an excuse?
Mr. Mbeki, just like any other president, has his media crew and political advisers with him at all time when on the road. He could have very well spoken from overseas – if he deemed it necessary and urgent. Better still, he could have jumped on the plane and return home – just like the Nigerian president did.
Mr. Yar’Adua abandoned an event in Arusha, Tanzania and returned home immediately he heard of the death of some forty Nigerian soldiers killed in a road traffic accident. The soldiers were returning to their base after serving in a peace keeping mission.
How Mr. Mbeki could decide to abandon his burning cities and
travel to Tokyo, Japan for a two-day meeting on African development is perplexing!
The report states that “Mbeki was later set to move on to Yokohama, southwest of the capital, where leaders of more than 40 African countries are due to meet on issues on poverty, the global food price crisis and development.”
African development?
As Thabo socializes with his counterparts in Japan, he needs to educated (and his African counterparts as well) that the antidote to Africa’s poverty and poor development can’t be found in foreign lands, but at home: By being socially responsible and sensitive to the people’s need and having the capacity to solve problems. It is this simple!
Watch this video clip and chew over the mess in South Africa. The violence against foreigners has killed 50 people and displaced tens of thousands:

Life

Life

Life is all about chances and choices, the chances that we take and the choices that decide our fate. This life that we live is just a game, a game that we play every moment, every minute, everyday, each time trying to overtake the finish line.

That’s the life that we are living today, the race against time. We have innumerable things to do and yet the time is just not enough. In each and every day, we hope to achieve all the material things we desire, tour the world, laugh till our stomachs burst, run like there’s no tomorrow, scream so that the world can hear or just merely fool around and feel like a child again. In doing all these magnificent and incredible things, no matter how great they may seem, we always forget the one thing that makes our lives complete, the one thing that we can turn back to when we feeling disappointed and the one thing that never lets us down…our religion…our creator…Allah!!

How many times, after our tiresome days at work or annoying days at school do we come home and simply thank Allah, thank him for this wonderful life he has bestowed upon us, for the knowledge that we gain everyday, or for granting us the most beautiful gift of being Muslims so we can worship him. How many times do we turn our head in prayer and purely pray for the pleasure of Allah alone?? All this we forget because we are too busy living our lives, the lives we take for granted and the life that we feel is going to last forever.

Life should be lived to the fullest. We should tour the world, laugh, scream and fool around but in doing this we should also remember that it’s not going to last forever and we should prepare for the time when it has to end. We should sometimes just take that little extra time and devote it mainly to please Allah.

Life is like the game we play, we might experience some of the most terrifying and tough challenges along the way, but its up to us to play them…

Poem

Poem

Its amazing how once,
you were there,
And everyone did care.
You shared your smile,
When everyone cried.
You did your best,
to cure the rest.
You were the stars in the sky,
How beautiful, Oh My!
Its funny though,
That when you were gone,
Everyone mourned,
And day by day
You just slipped away…

Poem

Poem

Raising his weapon against his rival,
He remembered the words of his bible.
He then saw a beam
And the moon did it seem,
For him, was it the brightest of all nights.
A voice echoing through the valleys,
It seemed to be coming from the alleys
Was his fate now decided?
Sinking to his knees
The pain rushed down his spine
But to him,
It was all fine…

Propaganda-Summary

Propaganda: The Open Secret

Propaganda is the technique used to persuade people into believing something. For propaganda to be effective, only one side of the story is presented. Advertisers and politicians use media strategies to flood people with information. Propaganda shows how well one side of an argument’s ideology is and portrays the bad side of the opposing system. It can also be described as being biased. Propaganda in the past was used to make one believe in a system of government. Many who make use of propaganda deny it, and declare it as the truth.

Review of Animal Farm

Review/Prediction of Animal Farm

Animal Farm" is a satirical fable of great symbolic value, The novel is an allusion to the Russian Revolution and can be seen as the historical analysis of the causes of the failure of communism. The novel aims to prove that the greed for power in human nature surely does corrupt him and makes him more self-centered. The novel was a clever and finely disguised attack on communism
Whatever the good intentions of political movements and developments, power corrupts, and the strong will always exploit the weak.

. After chasing the owner away, the animals feel free to function the way they want and keep all the produce to themselves. But this is until the greed for power becomes prevalent. The pigs on the farm take over management and convince the other animals of their supremacy. The other animals, entrenched in the philosophy of the revolution, obey the pigs and work hard for the betterment of the farm. However, the pigs use them to satisfy their own selfish needs and desires.
Animal Farm successfully presents how the mechanism of propaganda and brainwashing works in administration and management, by showing how the pigs could make the other animals believe practically anything.
The novel maybe seen as an analysis of the Soviet regime, or as a warning against political power.A very moving and touching novel, which highlights the disappointment of an idyllic vision gone wrong. Assists in understanding history and Capitalism and Communism.
